The successful candidate will lead the daily activities of a small team responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of data warehouse systems and related data marts and offer consultation and strategic guidance around the performant management of data solutions for the Force.

Salary:  Band 11 – £47,403 - £51,711 (Increasing to £47,805 – £52,152 from September 2023 following a transitional pay award period)
Based at:  Location - agile between home and Forth Banks Police Station, Newcastle
The role:
Northumbria Police is entering an exciting new era of technology led change in which data and information plays an essential role and is at the heart of the service the Force delivers.  Data warehousing solutions and database architecture will become a crucial part of the Force’s digital policing service together with data integration and interoperability.   
To support this, the ICT department would like to recruit a capable, experienced and motivated Principal Data Manager to work with the business to ascertain data requirements with a view to designing and delivering data models and warehousing solutions as well as managing the Extract Transform and Load [ETL] process of data integration between systems.   
The successful candidate will lead the daily activities of a small team responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of data warehouse systems and related data marts and offer consultation and strategic guidance around the performant management of data solutions for the Force. 
You will contribute to project work that will deliver new data infrastructure whilst maintaining and supporting the solutions that have already been delivered into business as usual.      
The data and information solutions that you will deliver and support are critical to the Policing service and when they don’t perform as expected, this can be incredibly stressful for the end user.  This role is looking for someone who can not only provide effective data modelling and infrastructure solutions but can equally understand the impact of a data failure to the business and support the user through the experience to its resolution.

What will I be doing? 

 

  • Assist in the design, development and configuration of performant Data solutions, which could include Data Warehouses, Lakes, Vaults and staging databases, to meet the data needs of the Force.
  • Gain full understanding of the business requirements and support the effective design of affiliated data management options and solutions, assisting Solutions Architects and Software Engineers to establish suitable and reusable assts.
  • Provide technical leadership to the support and maintenance service for the Force’s data structures and models, ensuring security standards are met and data environments are patched, monitored and maintained appropriately to operate within agreed SLA’s.
  • Fully understand the security, data and technical constraints affiliated with Data management and apply these to the data solutions of the Force.
  • Effectively manage ETL processes including data transformation, sourcing, mapping, loading and translation.
What do I need? 

 

  • Strong experience in data management and warehousing.
  • Extensive experience in ETL process consisting of data transformation, sourcing, mapping, loading and translation.
  • Experience in database design and methodology.
  • Experience in data analysis, validation, cleansing and verification.
  • Active experience in using QDI Compose, Replicate and Catalyst.
  • Experience of relational database technologies such as SQL Server or Oracle.
  • Good experience of relational and multi-dimensional data model design.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing best practice.
  • Excellent communication skills to bridge the gap between technical and business language to ensure shared understanding and effective solution delivery.
  • A degree, HND or equivalent qualification, and/or have significant relevant experience.
