Salary: £55,000 (Base salary of £41,904 to £45,873 plus Market Forces Supplement of 17%)

The Digital Policing Data & Information Team are looking for an enthusiastic Principal DBA with strong Oracle skills and experience to lead and deliver critical DBA services for the Force’s strategic transformation programme.

This role is a one-year fixed term post to cover maternity leave and offers a flexible mix of home and office-based working, as necessary, as well as offering agile working patterns where working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

What do I need?

  • A degree, HND or equivalent qualification, and/or have significant relevant experience
  • Excellent Oracle skills
  • Experience of high availability and disaster recovery options
  • Experience of backup and recovery procedures
  • Experience of installing, upgrading and patching
  • Experience of monitoring, tuning and securing databases
  • Good knowledge and application of principles of safe data management
  • Experience of developing and maintaining ETL processes
  • Experience of Database Migration
  • Excellent ability to prioritise and plan
  • Strong estimating skills and experience

The Role:

The successful candidate will manage, design, implement and improve complex relational database technologies and multi-tier application services as well as managing systems performance to prevent a business affecting problem from arising. 

You will provide consultative support and guidance to the DBA team whilst ensuring quality of delivery and design for Force databases and delivering good quality data migration through effective use of ETL processes.  

You will also be expected to aid in problem solving and carry out any required investigations to meet the strategic objectives of the Force.   

What will I be doing?

  • You will maintain application and database software including Oracle E-Business Suite, Enterprise Application Services, Oracle Database, Directory Services and Business Intelligence products, producing test and regression plans and performance tuning to aid business continuity planning.
  • Develop and support data migration through effective ETL processing
  • Manage database implementations to resolve issues and identify potential problems and trends, ensuring that the performance of the systems and support services remain in line with Service Level Agreements
  • Approve all production database design and schema changes and control the migration of schema changes from development to production environments
  • Provide professional and expert advice on the importance of good data management practises
  • Accurately forecast future application and database growth over the short, medium and long term by undertaking capacity planning to ensure that applications and databases make best use of the storage available
  • Line Manage at least one direct line report, supporting their performance, training and development needs to improve the quality of service and contribute to the development of the individual.
