Salary: Band 5, £24,360 - £25,353 (Increasing to £24,558 – £25,560 from September 2023 following a transitional pay award period)

 

Location: Etal Lane Police station, Newcastle Upon Tyne (with some home working)

 

Contract Length: Fixed Term / Secondment until March 2025

 

What will I be doing?

 

An opportunity has arisen for the right individual to deliver a research service to support the analytical team within crime. Working as part of a team of researchers and analysts your work will be key to the delivery of effective problem solving in support of the local aims and objectives and intelligence processes.

 

This role sits within the Intelligence Analytical department and is part of a team involved in supporting a team of analysts linked to tactical, strategic and operational requirements.

 

Intelligence Researchers form a key part of the analytical function within the Intelligence unit.  Their primary role is to provide research support to the Intelligence Analysts by assisting in the collation of intelligence and evidence regarding crimes and criminals.  They also conduct research in relation to intelligence development, utilising internal and external police force databases and when appropriate initiating enquiries with partnership and other external agencies or businesses.   

 

You will report directly to a Senior Analyst. Your key responsibilities will include extracting and preparing both qualitative and quantitative data and intelligence for analysis from a variety of sources and contribute to the compilation of intelligence products, briefings and/or bulletins in order to inform operational staff and force tasking.

 

Main duties will include:

·         Using specialist software identify collate and input data from a range of sources to appropriate databases, in order to contribute to the analysis of crime and disorder.

·         Identify links, emerging trends and patterns between crimes and criminals in order to contribute to the assessment of threat harm and risk in all areas of crime and disorder.

·         Undertake research requests and project work, using both internal   external systems in order to provide relevant information to contribute to the analytical function.

·         Contribute to the compilation of analytical products, ensuring that relevant timely complete and accurate information is available to support effective decision making.

·         Liaise with internal and external sources in order to facilitate the collection and analysis of data.

·         Complete data requests returns and adhoc enquiries in order to comply with requests from external clients such home office, FOI and other partners, to comply with National requirements.

·         Respond at short notice to urgent operational requests and demands 

·         Liaise with colleague to support the knowledge sharing process across the departmental functions and ensure there is a collaborative approach to intelligence.

·         Undertake open-source research ensuring compliance with data protection legislation to support operational requirements.

·         Attend and contribute to meetings with internal and/or external partners, if required.

 

What essential skills are required?

·         Previous experience of undertaking research

·         Ability to collate and present large volumes of complex information

·         Accuracy and keen attention to detail

·         Ability to manage and prioritise own task to ensure deadlines are met
