Police Staff Investigator (PIP2) - HMPPS Counter Corruption NERSOU

2 Year Secondment/Fixed Term – with the possibility to be extended up to 3 years.

Applicants must be accredited under the Professionalising Investigations Programme (College of Policing) to Level 2. Maintenance of this accreditation / competence requires demonstration of CPD against the recognised professional standards.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and motivated individuals who are current accredited PIP level 2 investigators and who can demonstrate ongoing continuous professional development (within the last two years) to join Northumbria Police as a Police Staff Investigator, seconded to HMPPS.

Role:
The Police Staff Counter Corruption Investigator role involves working as part of the wider Regional Prisons Intelligence Unit (RPIU) team of investigators to identify corruption threats in prisons and probation, including by analysing the relationship between corruption and wider criminality (national security threats, organised crime and extremism) and investigate corrupt staff and those who seek to corrupt staff, supporting prosecution where appropriate. 

To further develop and strengthen the ongoing partnership working between HMPPS and Police to investigate corruption, we are pleased to announce that funding is now secured for 20 additional dedicated Police Investigators nationally. These will be secondment posts, with funding available with immediate effect. The provision of these resources allows for each Regional Organised Crime Unit to be allocated two investigator posts within the Regional Prison Intelligence Unit. Funding will be for Officers, or staff, on up to a three year secondment, reviewable after two years. These posts are to be offered as a secondment/fixed term in the event that funding prematurely concludes
 
Successful candidates will Conduct Investigations into referred corruption cases through the agreed tasking protocol as required. Liaise and work with RPIU, HMPPS Regional Counter Corruption Unit, establishment PIO’s, other investigators, specialists and managers to establish and use appropriate methods for gathering material and to develop procedures to turn material into intelligence or evidence as part of the investigation into corruption reported within the prison and probation network.

The role will involve the collection and gathering of material, intelligence and evidence from a range of sources that are appropriate to the serious and complex nature of the investigation, record and retain evidence in a format that is evidentially admissible to support the investigative process. The post holder will also identify and plan their own investigative actions, taking into account resources, priorities, and proportionality to achieve investigatory objectives. The roles will be based out of NERSOU, Sunderland but the post holders will be responsible for investigations both within and outside of the North East prison estate. The post holders will predominantly work office based hours however on occasion there may be a need to work overtime.   

Successful candidates must have the ability to travel around the North East region as part of this role therefore it is desirable that applicants have a full UK driving licence. Successful applicants will be required to attend a one day personal safety / first aid course.

Applicants must be a resident of the UK for a minimum period of 5 years to ensure vetting checks can be successfully performed.
