The role:
To provide specialist advice to Area Command staff on licensing issues in the Newcastle and Gateshead Sectors by undertaking the relevant research and delivering training to police officers in order to secure the enforcement of legislation whilst promoting best practice.

What will I be doing?
This role will involve assessing the suitability of applicants relating to licensing matters using intelligence databases, site visits, conducting meetings and examining intelligence sources to ensure that they comply with the relevant standards and regulations. 

This will also involve the inspection of licenced premises with and without police officers to verify compliance with relevant legislation. Within this is the ability to write coherent reports to either object or support licensing applications and may in some cases involve verbally presenting this material to police and licencing panels. 

Applicants should have a keen interest in the development of licensing legislation and report to management to ensure compliance. 

The ability to gather, process and disseminate intelligence relating to licensing matters appropriately in order to support enforcement of licensing and any other related legislation in support of the detection and prevention of crime. 

What do I need: 
  • Strong planning and organising skills – with the ability to adapt to priorities
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage your time effectively
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the confidence to build relationships with both internal colleagues and external agencies
  • The ability to make solid decisions when under pressure
  • Resilience and the capability to remain calm when challenged  
We’d also like you to have experience of Licensing however it’s not essential as we can support with training if necessary.

Vetting level:  Recruitment Vetting (RV) 
Applicants must be a resident of the UK for a minimum period of 3 years to ensure vetting checks can be successfully performed.  

A job offer will be dependent upon vetting clearance, medical information and references.
