The role
We have an excellent opportunity to join the Communications Department in the role of Resource Controller on a full time basis. 
 
The role of the Resource Controller is a unique job for a unique person, which demands resilience, patience, a broad mind and a positive attitude and is at the forefront of delivering the forces vision, mission and values. 

Based in one of our Communications Centre’s at either Ponteland or South Shields, you will work closely with the Contact Handlers to ensure the Communications Department plays its role in helping the force deliver an outstanding service.  

As a resource controller working for Northumbria Police you’ll be working a shift pattern which involves 24/7, 365 days a year cover. 

In return for your dedication and experience, we offer 23 days’ leave, excluding bank holidays, increasing to 28 days for 5 years+ service.  We support our people inside and out of work – offering a very competitive pension scheme, childcare vouchers, and discounts on shopping and eating out thanks to the Blue Light Card. What will I be doing?

You will be responsible for identifying and allocating the appropriate resources to incidents, manage several incidents simultaneously, responding to officer needs, requests and monitor open incidents. 

You will use the information provided whilst reassessing the threat, harm and risk in line with updated intelligence.

You must be able to quickly comprehend large amounts of information from a variety of sources, including radio transmissions, telephone calls, and databases and task and direct resources effectively and efficiently.  The ability to reassess information as a situation develops confidentially managing any changes to ensure the correct result. 
 
You will be confident in your decision making and at times have to challenge situations to ensure the correct response. 

You will understand force priorities and the role in which you play to ensure force priorities are met.

·           The ability to negotiate and influence
·           The confidence to assess and challenge information
·           Exceptional IT Skills
·           The ability to multi-task in challenging circumstances

·           The ability to work alone and/or as part of a team
·           The ability to remain focused and calm when under pressure
·           The drive to deliver outstanding service 
·           Agile, receptive and positive when faced with changes in the work place.

Recruitment Vetting (RV): 
Applicants must be a resident of the UK for a minimum period of 3 years to ensure vetting checks can be successfully performed.  A job offer will be dependent upon vetting clearance, medical information and references.

• Candidates successful at shortlist will be invited to attend a digital familiarisation event on Friday 12thth November 2021.  This will give a further insight into the role of Resource Controller and the working environment of the Communications Centre and will be invaluable ahead of the interview process.
• Interviews will be held week commencing 15th November 2021.
• Pre-employment checks will progress from week commencing 22nd November 2021 (vetting checks, medical assessment and references will be sought as part of this process).
• Successful candidates are expected to start the mandatory training course in February 2022.
