Salary Banding: From £45,903 to £50,250

What will I be Doing:

 

As a Principal Accountant, you will be part of the Finance Senior Management Team responsible for delivering all aspects of a dynamic and efficient Finance Department, supporting the planning and management of the Force's strategic financial plans.  It’ll be a fast-paced role, where your team will be primarily responsible for the preparation, monitoring and closing of the annual revenue budgets.

The key elements of the role include: 

• Managing the welfare, recruitment, appraisal, development and discipline of the Financial Performance Team; ensuring that learning and development needs are identified, delivered and supported.

• Leading on Revenue Monitoring and reporting for both Northumbria Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria.

• Statutory, legislative and Home Office reporting.

• Innovative ways of accessing additional funding.

• Apprenticeship Monitoring.

What essential skills will I need?

 

• A fully qualified accountant (CCAB, CIMA or overseas equivalent).

• Exceptional verbal/written/presenting skills to help you liaise with others with tact and sensitivity.

• Experience of managing/supervising Finance staff

• The ability to prioritise and complete multiple complex responsibilities simultaneously.

• Evidence of Continuous Personal Development.

• A proven track record of problem solving and analytical skills (able to interpret data to identify opportunities and risk).

• Strong relationship and stakeholder management skills at all levels.

• Strong influencing skills.

• Professional resilience and high degree of self-motivation.

• Technically competent in the use of Financial Accounting systems and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

It would also be desirable for you to have had experience and knowledge of working with a public sector organisation, however this is not essential.
