Ever wondered what it’s like working behind the scenes for one of the UK’s largest Police Forces? Here at Northumbria Police, we are extremely excited to be able to offer an amazing opportunity to come and join us, in our Force Coordination Centre (FCC).

The Role:

This position falls within the FCC on a shift pattern covering the hours of 7am – 10pm, 7 days a week.

Our team of Resource Planners ensure the effective deployment of resources in response to live and future demand. This is a varied role where you will be planning resource for future events such as an upcoming football match, but also planning resourcing in response to a spontaneous incident or event. There will be other aspects of resourcing that you will be required to plan such as officer overtime, training and annual leave.  You’ll need to consider resource levels and capability, as well as liaising with internal and external stakeholders to deliver at times of exceptional operational need.  

What will I be doing?

  • Providing advice around resourcing options to commanders for events and operations and arrange the resources to ensure successful delivery.
  • Preparing and maintaining rotas where colleagues with specialist skills are a must to support operational policing.
  • Working closely with our team of Coordinators to ensure that accurate records are kept in relation to training and annual leave booking.
  • Using your ability to problem solve to generate ideas to best use our resources.
  • Making use of the current Force Computer systems to prepare current and future resourcing information.
  • Attending daily force wide pace setting meetings and preparing reports for senior management teams.

What do I need?

  • GCSE or equivalent Maths and English Grade A-C
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel in order to manage and present data.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads in order of importance, dealing with both spontaneous and planned workloads and to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical skills to make resourcing decisions based on data and previous trends.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team – you’ll be working closely with our Coordinators and Administrators to provide a seamless, effective service.
  • The resilience and ability to work under pressure – you’ll have multiple pieces of work at one time so the confidence to prioritise effectively is a must.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt this to a variety of internal, external and senior stakeholders.
  • The confidence to task and provide direction to officers to ensure effective resourcing of searches, events, incidents and operations.
