Northumbria Police is one of the largest forces in the country and is recognised as one of the top performing. We are going through the most significant period of change we have ever experienced and against this backdrop the composition of the force is changing. We now have a significant opportunity to deliver policing services through the development of our volunteer agenda
and are looking for an experienced manager to shape the future of service delivery through volunteers and volunteering in Northumbria Police.


This is a challenging yet rewarding position and an excellent chance to use your energy, enthusiasm and passion for volunteering to create opportunities and career pathways for volunteers. These will contribute to the delivery of policing activities and be aligned to our business objectives and mission, vision and values.

Volunteering in Northumbria currently comprises a thriving Special Constabulary a successful Volunteer Police Cadet scheme and most recently the introduction of Mini Police. We have a small but well established framework of police support volunteer opportunities and are keen to continue to develop and expand this key business area. We also work closely with a range of third party volunteers both individuals and partner agencies.  We are looking for a volunteering manager who can develop and implement a suite of reporting tools which capture the value and raise the profile of this broad range of volunteering activity. 


The successful candidate will have a proven track record in creating and embedding a strong culture of volunteering within organisations which will include an understanding of the issues affecting volunteers. We firmly believe that our workforce suggest the ideas which shape the future of the force and your ability to effectively engage with officers, staff and volunteers across all levels of the organisation and network with partners is essential to identify new volunteering possibilities. You will have experience in recruiting, training and supporting volunteers and have experience of developing targeted attraction strategies to ensure our volunteering opportunities are highly visible and easily accessible.

– Recruitment Vetting -  A period of 3 years residency in the UK is required to be eligible to apply.
