The role of Operational Trainer is a pivotal role within the People Development model. Police Officers and staff require a high standard of training in specialist skill areas to ensure they are ready to deliver a quality service to our communities in the modern world of policing.
Operational Trainers will be required to deliver Personal Safety, First Aid, Public Order, Taser, Method of Entry and CBRN training, therefore candidates must be prepared to undertake training in all areas as and when required.
You will prepare, deliver and evaluate training courses across the full range of disciplines in line with Northumbria Police and College of Policing Guidelines to ensure police officers and staff from across the organisation minimise the risk to the public whilst maximising their personal safety.
The post holder will be expected to successfully pass a College of Policing Personal Safety Trainers course within 12 months of appointment.
Flexibility, enthusiasm, self-motivation and initiative are key qualities you will be expected to demonstrate to be successful within this role. You should enjoy working as part of a team, but also be able to work independently, using your own initiative, managing your time effectively and prioritising workload effectively.
Strong communication skills are required in this role, so you should enjoy communicating with others, be able to adapt your style to suit your target audience when delivering training and you must be able to work closely with stakeholders to continuously develop the quality of the products you deliver.
Knowledge of wellbeing related academia such as Personal Training, Nutrition, Sports Science and exercise is advantageous and those with this skill set will be expected to support the organisation to drive wellbeing forward through their role as Operational Trainer.
Although you will usually work within ‘office hours’, you should be flexible with start and finish times and working location as required to meet operational requirements.
Successful applicants will be required to attend an interview and practical assessment as part of the selection process.
Applicants will be expected to fit the following criteria:
Fully fit - no medical conditions which would prevent outside working, working at heights, in confined spaces or working under pressure.
All applicants will be required to complete the Multi Stage Shuttle Run (bleep test) to Level of 6.3 prior to the selection process commencing.
Vetting level: Recruitment Vetting (RV)
Applicants must be a resident of the UK for a minimum period of 3 years to ensure vetting checks can be successfully performed.
