An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new member of Police Staff to join our Planning Team, within the Force Coordination Centre.

The successful candidate will operate in line with the Civil Contingencies Act to contribute to the continuous improvement of working relationships with partner agencies. The successful candidate will also specialise in the development and maintenance of work in one or more of the following areas: civil protection, organisational resilience, coordination of events and royal visit planning, making use of force procedures and policies to further this work and ensure best and current practice is maintained throughout the force area.

What will I be doing?

Liaison and co-ordination between Northumbria Police and various organisations as applicable in respect of royal visits, contingency planning and event planning to support the decision making process. In respect to events the planner works to the silver commander and coordinates all aspects of the event planning process. 

The planner will be allocated events which may include major events such as the Great North Run, Sunderland Air show, Pride, Music events or protests. This list is not exhaustive, events can be pre planned or spontaneous with only a few days’ notice and the planner is expected to plan to a high standard in both scenarios. The planner will be expected to work in the Tactical Command room for some events. 

You will contribute to the preparation, reviewing and evaluation of plans, events and VIP visits in order to ensure compliance with nationally agreed policy, codes of practice, regulations and other procedures affecting planning. Identify financial, physical and human resources required for events in order to ensure they are sufficient for the occasion. 

You must have excellent communication skills as a fundamental area of this role will be liaising with both internal and external partners. The event planner is the face of events and will be expected to answer questions from Northumbria staff and you will also represent Northumbria Police at meetings including safety advisory groups, ensuring the views and interests of the organisation are presented and protected.

What do I need?

Attention to detail is required as the planner will undertake administrative and operational duties required to ensure the efficient and effective operation of plans of produced. 

Able to identify, analyse and manage risk to inform balanced, proportionate, evidence based decisions.

Able to review and reflect on own performance objectively and to take steps to maintain and enhance competence and professional standards appropriate to the role.

Good time management skills with the able to appropriately prioritise and plan own work to work to deadlines.

Although you will be based out of Etal Lane Police Station you will be required to attend meetings across the force area when required.

A flexible approach with the experience to support working with a wide range of partners.
