Analyst - RECCC (NERSOU)
 

The role:
NERSOU aims to combat the threat to our region posed by individuals and/or groups involved in Serious and Organised Crime and demonstrate the commitment of all three forces, at the highest level, to protect their communities from both organised and cross border crime.

We are currently open to recruit Analysts for 3 vacancies within the Regional Economic Crime Coordination Centre (RECCC). The roles offered cover operational, tactical and strategic capacities. Applicants may also be considered for other analytical roles within NERSOU covering all Serious and Organised Crime.

Digital and Economic Crimes are some of the fastest evolving threats to our national security, impacting more of our citizens than any other crime types. To combat this NERSOU have created a new and dynamic team, the RECCC to work alongside existing structures and teams to enhance our response against these threats.

The RECCC’s objectives are;
To understanding the threat of Fraud and Economic Crime in the North East Region and communicate a coordinated response. Providing a tactical and strategic intelligence capability, producing analytical products to support and coordinate the regional response for the North East region of Cleveland, Durham and Northumbria
To empower individuals and businesses in the North East to safe guard their financial wellbeing sharing the tactics and understanding so our communities can better protect themselves.
To work with partners internal and external to law enforcement to ensure we have strong structures in place to mitigate the impact of these crimes when they occur. 
To impact recruitment of individuals into crime groups involved in financial crime, whether that be directly or indirectly, diverting them away from criminality and safeguarding them.
To maximise the opportunities presented through financial intelligence to disrupt and pursue those involved in Serious and Organised Crime, targeting their assets and ensuring there is no safe space for criminals to operate in.

What will I be doing?
As an Intelligence asset you will have responsibility for undertaking analysis and research at a regional level, preparing intelligence and analytical products.  You will work closely with other analytical and intelligence staff based in NERSOU.  This role will also involve liaison with the three constituent Forces and partner agencies both within law enforcement and also external to it. You will be expected to develop an understanding of the threat landscape, sharing relevant knowledge with different teams and organisations where necessary.

Key Responsibilities:-
1. Identify, plan and conduct data collection and integration to meet analysis requirements, in order to ensure information requirements are met.
2. Liaise with appropriate sources including police personnel and regional Partners, attend briefings, seminars and conferences where necessary, in order to gather and exchange information.
3. Undertake the analysis of information, selecting the appropriate analytical methodology, in order to improve understanding of any defined problem.
4. Develop hypotheses concerning the nature and scope of criminal activity, in order to support tactical and strategic decision making.
5. Produce conclusions, identify intelligence gaps and make recommendations for action and problem solutions, in order to assist the tactical and strategic decision making of operational managers.
6. Participate in the production of Intelligence Products in the form of analytical reports and present findings to a variety of audiences (including court).
7. Collate and integrate analytical products to identify common links and potential solutions in order to assist in combating regional and cross border problems and in support of the strategic planning process.
The post holder may be required to undertake such other responsibilities as are reasonably commensurate with the grade of the post.


What do I need?
You will have broad experience of undertaking research or analysis, demonstrating a mature theoretical and practical understanding of the techniques equitable to both disciplines. With the ability to make judgements on the most appropriate approach and data sources required. You will also demonstrate an innovative approach to the use of analysis and research within an intelligence led framework.

Essential:
• Proven ability to conduct in-depth analysis or research across a wide range of data sources
• Awareness of analytical tools and techniques
• Good understanding of information management and data integrity issues
• Experience of assessing information, conducting analysis, making reasoned judgements and presenting these results in a variety of formats
• Strong communication skills, both verbally and written
• Proven ability to work in partnership with other agencies, forces and/or business groups
• Competent in the use Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn and work with a range of IT applications, including some specialised systems
• The role will require travel across and outside of the NE region on occasion, and so the candidate should hold a full UK driving license 

Desirable:
• City and Guilds Level 3 Intelligence Analysis qualification or approved equivalent 
• Understanding of the use of intelligence, data, information and evidence by law enforcement agencies and a keen interest in Fraud and Economic Crime. 
• Knowledge of legislation governing the activities of law enforcement agencies, e.g. CPIA, IPA, etc.


Vetting level: 
Management Vetting (MV) and Security Clearance (SC)
Applicants must be a resident of the UK for a minimum period of 5 years to ensure vetting checks can be successfully performed.
