Covert Authorities Adviser – 22.5 hours - JRN 16408
 

Hours: 22.5 over 3 days

Salary: £22,107 to £24,156 pro rata

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen to undertake the position of Covert Authorities Bureau (CAB) Advisor, operating within the Northumbria Police Force. This role will involve carrying out efficient and accurate processing of applications to ensure the force is compliant in all areas of covert activity and that the correct authority is in place to support covert deployments.  You will be expected to provide advice on a day to day basis in relation to all covert activity and undertake research to support this area of work.

 

Applications are invited from those who can demonstrate effective communication and personal responsibility and have experience prioritising work and adhering to strict deadlines, where unqualified accuracy and integrity are essential.

 

Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD), to drive improvements for themselves, the Covert Unit and the wider team; working within Northumbria Force Proud Values and Mission Statement.

 

An awareness of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) 2000, Investigatory Power’s Act 2016 (IPA) and the Police Act 1997 is desirable but not essential.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the highest levels of integrity and accountability, underpinned by the Code of Ethics, as well as a willingness to work flexibly, with a can-do attitude, supporting colleagues and covering the various CAB disciplines as required.

 

Key responsibilities include;

 

1.           Receive, assess and process all Covert Authority applications, reviews, renewals, revocations, liaising with Area Command and Specialist Departments, to ensure the necessary information is submitted appropriately.

2.           Provide correct legislative guidance and respond to enquiries throughout the organisation.

3.           Monitor and administer covert systems to ensure the correct status is maintained for all Covert Authorities, and that Officers have appropriate access and support.

4.           Conduct research on police systems as well as covert systems to support the deployment of covert activity.

5.           Support the audit process by ensuring that all area command departments and specialist units are compliant with the current legislation and codes of practice.

6.           Maintain secure filing and storage systems for all confidential documents and computer files in order to ensure the security and integrity of the information held.

 

There will be an expectation that the successful candidate remains in post for a minimum of 18 months.
