What will I be doing?
As a Professional Development & Assessment Adviser you will be planning, designing and monitoring the delivery of our Performance & Development Reviews which assesses individual performance, potential and professional development of all of our police officers, staff and volunteers.

You will contribute to recruitment and promotion selection activities for both volume and specialist roles through the design of competency and values led assessments, including interviews, assessment centre exercises, online assessments, psychometric tools and provision of professional feedback.

You will also co-ordinate national examinations, providing advice and guidance and analysing force performance and outcomes to improve professional development and talent management.

You will play a key role in increasing professional development and assessment skills across the force ensuring objectivity and consistency in approach and undertaking quality assurance and statistical analysis of assessment and selection outcomes.

A large number of the People Development & People Services teams are currently working from home and in future will have a blended approach to working which will incorporate home working with some office-based engagements.

What do I need?
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate the following:

  MSc Occupational Psychology (or actively working towards this qualification), or relevant work experience in this area
Proven ability in assessment design including; Job Analysis Techniques; Psychometric and Situational Judgement Test design techniques; Exercise Design and Quality Assurance and Statistical Analysis 
Knowledge of selection tools for both specialist and volume roles 
Ability to gather and analyse information  to identify skill, competency, behaviour and value requirements 
Strong numerical skills and statistical analysis experience with the ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative information 
Experience in developing development assessment and evaluation skills in others
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Good planning and organising skills with the ability to meet critical timescales

Desirable skills/experience:


Experience in supporting professional development and increasing employee engagement in understanding their performance and potential
Experience of Performance Review systems in and ability to monitor outcomes and quality assure assessments

Vetting level: 
Recruitment Vetting (RV) 
Applicants must be a resident of the UK for a minimum period of 3 years to ensure vetting checks can be successfully performed.  A job offer will be dependent upon vetting clearance, medical information and references.
