Police Staff – Prison Intelligence Officer (PIO)

An exciting opportunity to join the seven Force ‘North East Regional Intelligence Unit’ (NERPIU) with applications invited from existing Police Staff and external applications  to cover the Prison estate in the three Force section of the seven Force Region: 

Cleveland
Durham
Northumbria

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of intelligence to tackle Organised Crime linked to the prisons’ estate.

Applicants should ideally have: 
Experience in crime investigation and or handling intelligence
Surveillance and covert operations awareness
A good knowledge of Human Rights legislation, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 and the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996.

Existing Police Staff applicants will require permission from their current Force in order to be eligible to apply for this regional secondment opportunity in line with their Home Force policy.
Applicants must be willing to undertake the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) accreditation process.

Successful candidates will also be required to complete the national Working in Prisons training course delivered by the Operational Partnership Team (residential). 

Role:  
The NERPIU is a joint Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime function covering all HMP establishments within the seven North East Forces with line management within the Counter Terrorism Policing network.

Successful applicants will predominantly be working alongside Prison Staff and will be embedded within their allocated prison. Successful applicants must be flexible in terms of working out of any the three Force region prison estate depending of staffing and risk and be flexible in their working hours based on demand. 

The role of the Prison Intelligence Officer (PIO) is essential to maintain and develop the important link between Law Enforcement Agencies eg: NCA, the Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) as well as engagement with Senior Management.

Applicants must be willing to undertake the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) accreditation process.
  
Vetting: 
Management Vetting (MV) and Security Clearance (SC)
Applicants must be a resident of the UK for a minimum period of 5 years to ensure vetting checks can be successfully performed.  A job offer will be dependent upon vetting clearance, medical information and references.   

If you do not have this vetting level you must be willing to go through the process to achieve it.
