To fully realise this ambition, we are searching for an experienced Talent Acquisition Manager to deliver our talent agenda, focusing on candidate attraction, selection, development and career progression. This new role will formulate and develop strategies to support our people plan, delivering a modern candidate experience. It will build upon the already established position of the Force as a key employer, enhancing diversity of talent and placing us in the digital talent acquisition space.

The Candidate


You will need to demonstrate extensive experience in the use of digital recruiting techniques and platforms, across a broad spectrum of disciplines. You will need to demonstrate stakeholder engagement across all levels of an organisation and evidence proven ability to influence culture change. 
You will lead in leveraging social media and harnessing the power of new technologies to source new talent. You will:

  • Create a compelling candidate experience
  • Connect with Millennials and Gen Z
  • Maximise the use of applicant tracking systems (ATS)
  • Adopt content marketing for recruiting
  • Build a digital employment brand that is visible and attractive
  • Integrate talent sourcing channels

You will lead and develop the talent acquisition function ensuring talent and resources are available to meet dynamic business needs with a focus on onboarding. You will work closely with senior stakeholders to:

  • Shift from continuous to connected learning approaches
  • Adopt an agile recruiting model
  • Establish a culture of innovation
  • Harness the power of analytics to make better talent decisions
  • Shape external talent acquisition strategy
  • Create talent pipelines for key roles across the force
  • Build a strong employer branding strategy
  • Implement cross functional business career pathways

Your background

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in e-resourcing, talent acquisition and a passion for public service, including:

  • Evidence of driving change and adapting business needs within a matrix organisation
  • Ability to identify gaps in the recruiting process and drive process and practice
  • Solid understanding of full-cycle talent management
  • Ability to manage a high volume of roles and candidates at speed
  • Desire, drive and passion to grow, modernise and develop self and the organisation
  • Proven, outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with ability to influence and challenge status quo
  • Knowledge and experience in succession planning and talent acquisition

The Talent Acquisition Manager will own the entire talent acquisition lifecycle, working across all force areas and supporting all departments. The role will focus on creating a digital space for Northumbria Police, where talent acquisition is visible, creative, modern and responsive. The Talent Acquisition Manager will be supported by a team of specialist recruiters. We will consider agency recruiters with onsite experience who are looking to move into an internal recruitment role.

Working closely with internal teams; you will manage the hiring process from sourcing to onboarding across the business.You will lead on the creation of compelling job ads for current opening and manage job boards and social networks (e.g. LinkedIn, Sourcing), creating a pipeline of candidates for future hiring needs.

The successful candidate will be committed to social change through technology. They 
will assist to set a strategy to move from courting candidates to driving their decisions. For this you will coordinate research to better understand the key traits of critical talent segments and the emotional trajectory of candidates deploying new processes and/or technologies that improve the candidate’s ability to signal their interest in, and quality for, roles across the Force. You will prioritise employment branding and marketing investment away from efforts that aim to reach entire talent populations to initiatives that build networks of engaged talent that are best fit for Northumbria Police.
