Becoming a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) offers you a fantastic opportunity to work with our communities providing a visible reassuring police presence to the public as you become a familiar face patrolling your local area.

 

Role:

As a PCSO you will deal with minor offences, you could be conducting enquires, preserving a crime scene or dealing with anti-social behaviour. You will also play a crucial role in information and intelligence gathering, recording this accurately and forwarding to officers as appropriate. You will be involved in briefings and subsequent operations making an important contribution to delivering a successful outcome.


You will also liaise with a wide variety of community partners to resolve problems, deter crime, and provide advice. You will be approachable and adaptable and these skills will support you to build positive and sustainable relationships with key community figures. These relationships will allow you to become the respected face of Northumbria Police within the community.

Training: 
Following your appointment you will complete a specialist training course with People Development to gain the skills needed to be successful.

Commencement date - Tuesday 26 March 2019 until Monday 23 April 2019 – Monday to Friday - based at Ponteland. 
** Please note - unless there are exceptional circumstances for minimum abstraction there is no facility to approve annual leave/time off for the duration of the course period. 


Locations:
PCSO’s operate out of stations across the force area.  The station you are posted to is dependent on current vacancies along with the force’s priorities and demand: you should therefore be aware that there may be a requirement to travel.


Pre-employment Checks:

 

Vetting:  Recruitment Vetting (RV)

Applicants must be a resident of the UK for a minimum period of 3 years to ensure vetting checks can be successfully performed.  

 

Biometric Vetting:  

DNA samples for the purpose of elimination. 

 

Fitness Test:
The fitness test consists of a beep test where you must meet the standard of 5.4. This involves running for approximately 3 minutes 40 seconds.



A job offer will be dependent upon vetting clearance, medical information, fitness test and references.
