We are looking to recruit into a graduate accountant role to fill an existing vacancy within the Finance Department.  This is an exciting opportunity to join our existing team of finance professionals, gain knowledge and exposure to a wide range of finance and accountancy areas within a dynamic public sector organisation.

 

This is a unique development opportunity, leading to a professional qualification through the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) with the potential to progress within the organisation on successful completion of the qualification and satisfactory work and professional conduct. 

 

You will work within the revenue monitoring team; it will be fast paced where you will prepare monitor and close the annual revenue budgets. You will provide advice and support to senior managers within the organisation. 

 

The force has recently developed a more agile and smarter approach to service delivery, recognising there are a number of roles that can be performed effectively in the home environment, enabling greater productivity and improved work-life balance.

 

This role has been assigned an ‘agile’ persona which means that you will be able to work flexibly at a force location or at home.  The assigned ‘team zone’ location for the role is Forth Banks Police Station, Newcastle City Centre.  Frequency of attendance at the force location will be determined subject to business needs and in agreement with line management.

 

What will I be doing?

  • Undertake professional CIPFA qualification to achieve chartered accountant status.
  • Detailed analysis of revenue budgets carrying out in-depth analysis and accurate financial forecasts.
  • Undertake projects and research in relating to a specific function of the team.
  • Provide regular updates and advice to senior managers in relation to their budgetary position attending relevant business meetings.
  • Support and contribute to the annual budget setting cycle, preparation of future budget provisions and MTFS.
  • Provide support for Treasury Management including daily banking assessments and cash flow forecasts.
