The Force Coordination Centre was set up to manage all aspects of force resourcing. The Centre provides resourcing information to senior officers to assist in managing demand, planning and resourcing events and incidents. The team play a big role in ensuring that abstractions and annual leave are managed effectively, key work includes management of annual leave, arranging training courses and resourcing events and operations ensuring systems are updated to accurately reflect the information. They also support Silver and Gold Commanders by providing resourcing options for live time events and pre-planned operations. It’s the role of the FCC to make sure that the correct skilled resources are in the right place at the right time to ultimately reduce demand on a certain role or function. This ensures we continue to improve our service to the public and the wellbeing of our people.

The Role

We have an opportunity for you to be at the forefront of change within Northumbria Police as part of our Force Coordination Centre.  You will be working as part of a wider centralised resourcing team that will be responsible for coordinating the deployment of police officer and staff across the force area. The team will lead on understanding demand, resourcing requirements and skill profiles across the force to be able to translate these into plans that align with both internal and external demand.

What will I be doing?

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the delivery of a demand analysis, forecasting and modelling service to support, develop and improve the way our resources are deployed across the force. 

If you are highly analytical and possess workforce demand management planning experience, then this could be just the role for you;

You will be responsible for providing the analytical capability and solutions, interrogating force wide demand profiles to drive operational performance that is reflective of emerging trends.  

You will develop short, medium and long term forecasts that are aligned to operating models and seek to optimise operational resource deployment.

We will look to you to use modelling tools and your expertise to develop robust scenario based forecasts that will inform future approach to aligning capacity and resources to changing demand. 

The role will require you to be innovative and influence a more proactive approach to meeting and reducing demand.

Working closely with key stakeholders; sharing your findings, providing reports and making recommendations to enable improved efficiency and effectiveness of deployment and increased public and victim satisfaction.

You will be pivotal in conducting assessments, designing shift patterns and schedules that acknowledge the requirements of the business and our contractual obligations to our colleagues and work with the leadership team to ensure effective implementation. 

What are we looking for?

Someone who is organised and methodical in their approach with excellent analytical and problem solving skills is a given for this role.

In addition the right person; 

  •  Will have experience in forecasting workloads and demand patterns, and a strong theoretical understanding of the design principles and methodology that support this. 
  •  An ability to use information and analysis to report findings confidently in a clear and accessible way using evidence based research; communicating at all levels, both verbally and written.
  •  Be self-driven / motivated, who can work independently as well as having excellent teamwork and stakeholder management skills to fit into a multi-disciplined organisation of police support staff, officers and volunteers.  
  •  Be able to work to tight deadlines, whilst managing multiple work streams
  •  Will be an advocate of helping drive a continuous improvement culture, seeking out new ways of working and using        technology to evolve how we do our business. 
  •  Be an advanced Excel user with a good working knowledge of other Microsoft and relevant statistical packages; and having knowledge of VBA and SQL would also be extremely desirable.
