The role:
This is a full-time, fixed term post, commencing immediately until 30th June 2022. There are 2 posts available.
The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner is one of eighteen areas that have secured funding from the Home Office to develop a Violence Reduction Unit (VRU).
VRUs are a multi-agency approach designed to bring together police, local government, health agencies, education representatives and other community representatives to tackle violent crime, and importantly, its underlying causes.
The Education Team within the VRU currently delivers education packages in schools, alternative providers and in community and voluntary sector organisations e.g youth groups, focussed around knife crime, exploitation and malicious communications.
What will I be doing?
As Violence Reduction Liaison Officer you will be responsible for delivering resilience focussed education sessions to young people, to help prevent substance misuse. You will deliver sessions in schools, youth groups and other community settings where young people frequent.
You will develop and grow relationships within local communities, taking an asset based public health approach to reducing serious violence and diverting youth from harm.
You will be instrumental in providing advice and support to young people, their relatives/carers and staff seeking advice or support.
Gather and record information/intelligence from the communities and escalate where appropriate.
You will be responsible for maintaining the required standards around information security to ensure any disclosures of data and information are appropriate.
What do I need?
The ability to establish and build trusted relationships.
You will have excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Experience in working with community partners.
Experience of working with young people.
Experience delivering education to young people/adults.
You will possess knowledge and understanding of the public health approach to reducing serious violence and of key violence prevention messages.
You will have proven experience in a similar position.
Teaching/Training qualification are desirable.
An understanding of drugs and alcohol would be advantageous but not essential.

Recruitment Vetting (RV)
