Forensic Trainer - JRN 20436

The role:

This is a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic and resilient forensic graduate to launch, or develop their career in the world of policing forensics and ensure quality forensic training and awareness is delivered across Northumbria Police.  Forensic awareness at crime scenes, during victim examinations, custody procedures and subsequent forensic laboratory submissions has never been more important and as Northumbria Police continues to embed quality standards into our forensic practices, we need to ensure our officers and staff have the appropriate training and skills to support those standards.

In return for your dedication and experience, we offer 23 days’ leave, excluding bank holidays, increasing to 28 days for 5 years+ service.  We support our people inside and out of work – offering a very competitive pension scheme, childcare vouchers, and discounts on shopping and eating out thanks to the Blue Light Card. And to take care of your physical and mental well-being, we’ve invested in extensive paid sick leave, trained mental health first aiders on-site, an employee advice service and access to gyms in some stations.

What will I be doing?

Whilst this post is based within our People Services Investigative Training team, it is a role that will be shared between People Services and the force’s new Forensic Services Department.

The role involves the design and delivery of forensic learning and development programmes and solutions to ensure all Northumbria Police officers and staff are skilled and confident in the forensic aspects of their roles.  You will facilitate subject matter expertise and embed a framework of continuous professional forensic development that complies with legislative requirements and maintains investigative standards.

This dynamic role will ensure all forensic training aligns with force strategic priorities and objectives, and embraces change and innovation within all forensic disciplines, with the support and guidance of the Forensic Services Department.  This is a diverse and challenging role and requires engagement with all areas of operational business.

What do I need?

An undergraduate degree, or higher in a forensic discipline is essential for this post, however applications from candidates with operational forensic training experience will also be considered.

The successful candidate will be fully supported to achieve a Level 4 qualification in Learning & Development (where required) and gain experience alongside investigative skills trainers on a day to day basis. They will be dedicated to the provision of forensic training and continued professional development within the organisation.

In addition, a bespoke induction package has been created to ensure the successful candidate is supported in the delivery of their foundation forensic knowledge and mentored by experienced subject matter experts within our traditional and digital operational forensic units.  Regular operational attachments to all Forensic Services operational units will ensure the post holder builds effective relationships and facilitates the correct level of ongoing support from current practitioners and experts across the force.  All of which will be underpinned with a close working relationship with our Forensic Quality Team.

The hours of work associated with the role will be Monday to Friday ‘office hours’.
