Our Communications and Engagement team are instrumental in ensuring our officers, staff and volunteers are informed, engaged and enabled to deliver an outstanding policing service to our local communities. The team have transformed the way we communicate information across the Force and are essential in delivering strategic communications to drive engagement and ensure our people are informed.

What you’ll do

 

  • You will join an already successful team who strive to think differently, put new ideas into practice and support all communications and engagement, whether this be through video, written content, blogs or podcasts.
  • You will work closely with the Senior Internal Engagement Advisor to plan, develop and deliver internal communications and engagement activity that supports our strategy.
  • You will work collaboratively across all departments developing and implementing their communication and engagement plans that support transformation, our people and wellbeing agenda, increase engagement in our Force surveys and provide information to support operational policing.
  • Outstanding communication skills and an eye for detail are essential in this role. You will apply your spotless grammar and creative writing skills, but also your natural curiosity and innovation to bring new ideas to engage internal audiences effectively. One day you might be filming snippets of success stories for our internal news, on another day you might interview the Chief Constable to update the force on strategic decisions.
  • It is a demanding role, and the change of priorities can be challenging, so you should have developed the ability to manage your workload in a fast-paced environment.

What you’ll bring

 

Essential:

 

  • You will have experience of delivering communication and engagement plans.
  • Ability to deliver a range of content through different channels this could include videos, blogs, newsletters, storytelling and intranet. You will also be able to create, shoot and edit creative and engaging content for digital channels.
  • Excellent written, oral, presentational and interpersonal skills with attention to detail, ensuring all communications are clear and concise.
  • Ability to take initiative and be proactive but also work collaboratively, sharing ideas to support effective internal communications.
  • Able to deal discreetly with matters of a sensitive or confidential nature, and to demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equality and inclusion.
  • Prepared to work unsociable hours to support engagement activity – when required.

 Good to have:

 

  • At least 3+ years’ experience of working in a busy communication and engagement environment, at this level or relevant degree.
  • Good awareness of industry best practice and platforms for internal communications and engagement
  • Knowledge of policing and current related issues.
  • To be able to provide content that is of high quality and meets the needs of the Force whilst working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience of introducing new platforms to improve engagement opportunities.
  • Experience of both internal and external stakeholder relationship management.
