Senior Data Engineer - JRN 20773

Location: Base Location as required within the Force area including Home Working

The Role:

Northumbria Police is entering an exciting new era of technology led change in which data and information play a key role and older technology is being retired in favour of newer, more advanced solutions.  This includes the introduction of a new suite of key operational systems to manage Command & Control, Crime, Intelligence, Case and Custody that will replace the Force’s current solution.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Data Engineer who can not only provide effective updated data solutions but can equally understand the impact of a data failure to the business and support the user through the experience to its resolution.

You will work with end users, Technology Partners and Enterprise Architects alike, to fully understand the challenges faced by the business and appreciate Force data requirements with a view to crafting innovative and effective solutions to meet those challenges.  Alongside existing system support you will enable and deliver a new data platform which requires proven experience of replication/change data capture and delivery of orchestrated solutions from source to data warehouse.

You will be required to translate business requirements into well designed conceptual, logical and physical model data structures as well as performing the Extract Transform and Load (ETL) process of data integration ensuring a quality product is delivered.

Your solutions should be simple to operate, easy to fix and hard to break given the data and information solutions that you will deliver and support are critical to the Policing service and when they don’t perform as expected, this can be incredibly stressful for the end user.

You will be able to provide input to the data strategy with a keen interest in future innovation seeking the opportunity to work with and support Business Intelligence and Data Science areas.

In return for your dedication and experience, we offer 23 days’ leave, excluding bank holidays, increasing to 28 days for 5 years+ service.  We support our people inside and out of work – offering a very competitive pension scheme, childcare vouchers, and discounts on shopping and eating out thanks to the Blue Light Card. And to take care of your physical and mental well-being, we’ve invested in trained mental health first aiders on-site, an employee advice service and access to gyms in some stations.

What will I be doing?
• You are responsible for design and implementation of data solutions that meet standards and embedding reusable metadata and maintaining support processes.
You will deliver data solutions that support Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes.

Knowledge of data mining models and statistical techniques
Knowledge of data life-cycle management
