The DE&I team work collaboratively with business areas across the Force in delivering plans and projects to drive and embed the Force Diversity, Equality, and inclusion strategy.

The Diversity and Inclusion Manager (Organisation) plays an integral role within this and responsibilities include;

Design and implement activity across the organisational landscape to deliver upon the organisations strategic ambition regarding Diversity and Inclusion.

Ensure compliance with all statutory and mandatory requirements for equality, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility by providing specialist advice on best practices to promote, attract, retain and develop a diverse and inclusive workforce which is representative of the communities we serve.

Coach and support operational leads, managers and colleagues to deliver equality objectives using insight and evidence-based practice to advise on the development of strategies to drive cultural change, eliminate and reduce disparity, and build trust and confidence within communities.

Lead on the design and delivery of sustainable DE&I training programmes and projects that support workforce transformation and create an inclusive culture at team, departmental and organisational level to increase diversity, inclusion and wellbeing.

Provide support and guidance to Support Association Chairs and Co-chairs to enable them to deliver activity aligned to Force priorities and equality objectives whilst maximising opportunities to further engage the workforce, collaborate and share learning.

Research changes in diversity and inclusion initiatives externally and use learning to continually improve our approach to diversity, equality and inclusion to strengthen our external brand as an inclusive employer and trusted policing service.

Provide leadership and direction to the Diversity and Inclusion Advisors including recruitment, development and performance review, by ensuring they have the skills, knowledge, behaviours and experience to be productive in their role and reach their full potential.

Represent the Force at national, regional and local forums and develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Deputise for the Diversity and Inclusion Lead where necessary.

What skills and experience will I need?

Essential

       A strong passion for driving DE&I along with the knowledge and confidence to implement change.

       A thorough understanding of the Equality Act 2010 and Public Sector Equality Duty

       Ability to translate vision and strategic aims into key operational objectives and plans

       Experience of developing and delivering organisation wide programmes and projects

       The ability to prioritise and complete multiple complex responsibilities simultaneously 

       A proven track record of problem solving and analytical skills (able to interpret data to identify opportunities and risk)

       Exceptional verbal/written/presenting skills to help you liaise with others with tact and sensitivity 

       Strong relationship and stakeholder management skills at all levels

 

Desirable

Experience of managing/supervising staff

Experience of working in a senior diversity, equality and inclusion role within an organisation.

Professional qualifications to support your experience (Degree/CIPD/Project Management/Training).

Naturally - you’ll need to be a strong role model as well as an ambassador for the values and purpose of Northumbria Police.
