Salary: £26,244 to £28,725 pro rata (plus on-call allowance)
Fixed term Contract for 12 months

Location: Hebburn South Shields

A Coroners Officer operates on behalf of HM Coroner and initiates and conducts enquiries into unnatural, violent and unexplained deaths including those in state detention.

What will I be doing?

You will prepare documentation, take statements, attend post mortem examinations, record and deal with medical samples in accordance with the Human Tissue Act 2004 and take part in inquests.
 
As part of this role you will arrange inquests, liaise with bereaved relatives, witnesses, doctors, Pathologists, Solicitors and other organisations.  It is essential that you maintain high professional standards and are able to deal sensitively with bereaved persons.

What do I need?

It is essential that candidates possess the following qualities:

·   Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
·   Methodical approach and with a high attention to detail due to legal requirements;
·   Effective organisational, administrative and problem solving skills;
·   IT skills including experience of Force systems and Microsoft Office;
·   Ability to work unsupervised but also be an effective team member;
·   The ability to manage a demanding workload.
·   Personal resilience to cope with the challenging nature of daily work.
 
An awareness/knowledge of medical and legal practices or previous experience of working within the Coroners service would also be valuable in this role.

Please note on-call arrangements are in place for this role with appropriate remuneration. 
The ability to travel throughout the Force area is essential.

Applicants must be a resident of the UK for a minimum period of 3 years to ensure vetting checks can be successfully performed. 
A job offer will be dependent upon vetting clearance, medical information and references.
